Doug Fidler (Douglas Nigel Fidler) was an eminent, award winning photographer, all the more remarkable considering that he was a novice when he joined Cardiff Camera Club in 1983, after retiring from his position with Shell Chemicals. In the following years he travelled the world with his wife Linda (and his cameras!) and was able to take many memorable photographs, including superb wildlife photographs in East Africa.
His list of achievements and awards is long and include:
Welsh Salon Rollei Rose Bowl 1985 and 1986
Craeley Cup 1986
Crawley's Studio cup 1987
Best Nature Print Solihull Open Competition (1990 & 1995)
Represented the Photographic Alliance Of Great Britain in the International Federation Biennial World Cup natural history exhibitions (1991 & 1993)
Awarded Fellowship of The Royal Photographic Society (FRPS)
Awarded Artiste de la Federation de l'Arte Photographique (AFAIP)
Gold Medal Photographic Alliance of Great Britain 1989
Gold Medal Photographic Society of America 1990
Sadly Doug died in 2013 and Linda in 2018.
Doug's extensive portfolio of albums, prints and negatives was offered for auction in 2019 and was fiercely contested with numerous bidders. We decided that the quality of the images, many of them exhibited and/or prize winning, warranted outbidding the competition.
